Tahini or tahin, is a paste made from finely ground sesame seeds. Tahini is rich in vitamins (especially B1, B2 and B6), calcium (783 mg per 100 g almost 5 times as much as cow's milk), magnesium, iron and essential fatty acids.
Tahini has anti-ageing properties, it is energizing and good for the immune system. It is therefore very popular among vegeterians and vegans and is an alternative to bread spreads such as peanut butter.
Tahini is also used for the preparation of halvas.
